    What you may be seeing

    Common signs

    • Stiffening, hard staring, growling, snapping, or lunging at people
    • Guarding a person, place, object, doorway, or property
    • Reactions during touch, restraint, grooming, or movement
    • Increasing sensitivity to a wider range of people
    • Household routines organized around preventing contact

    Seek help now

    • Any bite, puncture, pursuit, repeated attack, or injury requiring care
    • Threats or aggression toward a child or vulnerable adult
    • Redirected biting of a handler
    • Sudden onset, pain, neurological change, or confusion

Severe is a starting point for planning, not a diagnosis. Use secure separation and arrange veterinary care plus an in-person behavior assessment now.

    Understanding the behavior

    What is people aggression?

People aggression includes threatening, snapping, pursuing, or biting a person. Fear, pain, guarding, territorial behavior, handling sensitivity, conflict, and learned history can contribute. The details of each incident matter, including warning signals, target, context, injury, and whether the dog pursued.

Secure separation comes first. Use locked barriers, leashes, crates when appropriate, and written visitor rules. Children and vulnerable adults should have no access to the dog until a qualified professional has assessed the risk. Do not recreate an incident to test the dog.

Any bite or sudden onset warrants veterinary evaluation. Severe cases receive an in-person assessment before program placement. Some dogs become safer and more manageable with intensive work, while others require permanent restrictions. No responsible trainer can guarantee that bite risk will be eliminated.

Partners Dogs has trained Arizona dogs through every kind of people aggression case since 1997, at our Scottsdale and Cave Creek facilities. Lifetime trainer support is included with every board-and-train program.

    What our clients say

“"My dog bit my father-in-law at Thanksgiving. Not a warning nip, a real bite that required stitches. I was horrified and terrified about what this meant for our family. The Partners team was the only one who gave me a straight answer about what was happening and what was realistic. Transform Camp changed the trajectory of that dog's life. He is not the same animal who bit someone. That work was worth every penny and every hard conversation we had along the way."”

    Karen O.

“"We have two young kids and our dog started showing aggression toward children, not ours, but neighborhood kids who came over. I knew we were at a crossroads. The Partners assessment was thorough, honest, and not alarmist. They laid out exactly what was driving the behavior and what the program could realistically achieve. We did Transform Camp and we are in a fundamentally different place today. I'm not saying the work is done, I don't think it ever fully is, but my kids can have friends over again."”

    Michael and Renee S.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can people aggression be improved?

In most cases, yes. With a structured plan and steady follow-through, people aggression usually improves and becomes much more manageable. How far and how fast depends on the dog and the household, and severe cases start with an in-person assessment.

How long does it take to see change?

Many dogs show early progress in the first weeks of a program, though the timeline varies with the behavior and the dog. The lasting value is in the follow-up: private lessons and group classes help the change hold at home over time.

What if my dog has more than one issue?

That is very common. During the assessment we identify every area of concern and build one plan that works on them together, rather than treating each in isolation.

Is professional training worth the cost?

It is an investment in daily life for you and your dog. Our board-and-train programs include weeks of follow-up, private lessons, and group classes so the results last, and financing is available up to 36 months.

    When can we get started?

Right away. Schedule a call or take the PD360 assessment online and we will find the best time to begin, starting with a clear look at your dog's people aggression.
