Behavior Severity Level
Severity: Moderate
What you may be seeing
- Excessive panting or drooling that begins when the owner prepares to leave — grabbing keys, putting on shoes
- Vomiting during or shortly after car rides, even on short trips
- Whining, crying, or barking throughout car rides that cannot be interrupted
- Refusal to approach or enter the vehicle voluntarily — requiring physical lifting
- Trembling or shaking inside the car even when stationary
- Frantic movement — inability to settle, pacing, attempting to climb to the front seat
- Yawning, lip licking, or other displacement behaviors in and around the car
- Bowel or bladder accidents inside the vehicle
- Symptoms that begin before the car has moved — triggered by proximity or the engine starting
- Car anxiety that is getting progressively worse, not better, with more exposure

What Our Clients Say
“I hadn't taken my dog to the dog park in two years because every car ride ended with vomit and a traumatized dog. The private lessons built it up so slowly that she never had a bad experience during the whole process. Now she loads herself into the car. I literally couldn't believe it the first time she did it.”
“My dog needed to be carried to the car for every vet visit. She's 65 pounds. The combination of private sessions with Partners and anti-nausea medication from my vet was exactly the right approach. She walks to the car on her own now and settles in the back seat.”
