Severity: Moderate
What you may be seeing
- Stiffening, freezing, or low growling when approached near food or a valued item
- Hard eye contact, "whale eye" (showing whites of eyes), or head lowering over a resource
- Eating or chewing faster when someone approaches
- Snapping or lunging if someone gets too close to food, a chew, or a specific spot
- Moving food bowls, toys, or items to a corner to eat or chew "safely"
- Growling or snapping when asked to move off furniture or exit a space
- Guarding one family member from another person or pet
- Behavior that varies by item — calm about some things, explosive about others
- Getting worse over time, not better, despite owner correction
- Guarding that causes you to alter your movement in your own home

What Our Clients Say
“We had three kids and a dog who would snap if anyone walked near his bowl. We were managing the problem for two years before we called Partners. The transformation was so complete that my six-year-old now puts his bowl down without any concern. I wish we'd called sooner.”
“Rosie would guard the couch, guard her toys, guard me from my husband — it was exhausting and a little scary. The Partners team explained exactly what was happening and why, and the private lessons gave us a real protocol to follow. Within a month, the guarding had dropped significantly.”
