How do I know which dog behavior problem I'm dealing with?

The Partners Dogs behavior library sorts common dog problems into five groups, aggression, anxiety, reactivity, obedience, and bad habits, and maps each one to the program that resolves it. Aggression and bite-related cases point toward Transform or Behavior Camp; anxiety and reactivity often start with Behavior Camp or private lessons; everyday obedience and nuisance habits respond fast to structured training. After 28+ years and 70,000+ dogs, we've learned that naming the behavior accurately is the first step to fixing it, so start here, then let an honest assessment confirm the plan.

    START WITH THE BEHAVIOR

Find Your Dog's Problem, Then the Path That Fixes It

    • Leash reactivity You cross the street to avoid other dogs, and the barking, lunging, and spinning on walks is something you now dread. See the Leash Reactivity Intensive
    • Aggression or a bite history You warn guests before they come in, and you worry about the day it goes too far. This is the deep end, handled after an honest evaluation. See Transform Camp
    • Anxiety and fear Your dog paces, panics at the door, or cannot settle when you leave the house. See Behavior Camp
    • Resource guarding You tiptoe around the food bowl, the couch, or a favorite toy. Guarding is common and very trainable. See Behavior Camp
    • Leash pulling, jumping, and manners Pulling your arm off, jumping on guests, ignoring you the second you step outside. See Group Classes
    • Puppy foundations A young dog and the chance to build the right habits before the problems on this list take hold. See the Puppy Program

    HOW WE THINK ABOUT BEHAVIOR

We Read the Dog First, Then Choose the Plan

Partners Dogs is balanced and tool-agnostic. We do not pre-commit to one method or one piece of equipment, because after 28+ years and 70,000+ dogs we have never found a single approach that fits every dog. We use the technique that actually helps the animal in front of us and that you can keep up long after the program ends.

Every plan starts with an honest assessment, not a sales pitch. We tell you what is realistic, give you a clear prognosis, and never promise miracles. When a problem looks rooted in pain, illness, or brain chemistry rather than training, we will say so and refer you to a veterinary behaviorist, because the right help sometimes starts at the vet.

The goal is never a list of tricks. It is a calm, safe dog and a normal life back, a dog you can walk, host around, and relax with.

    OUR PROCESS

    Honest Assessment First, Every Time

We evaluate. The PD360 assessment is where we meet your dog, watch the real behavior, and find the root cause instead of guessing from a symptom.

We tell you the truth. You get a clear prognosis and a straight answer on what is realistic. Some dogs are fully rehabilitated, some are significantly improved, and we will never oversell either.

We rule out medicine when it matters. If pain, illness, or brain chemistry looks like the real driver, we refer you to a veterinary behaviorist first. Training cannot fix a medical problem, and we will not pretend it can.

We map the plan. From there we point you to the right program, whether that is a reactivity intensive, a residential camp, private coaching, or a structured class, and we set expectations you can trust.

    WHAT WE ARE ACTUALLY AFTER

Picture the Dog You Can Finally Relax Around

A walk that is just a walk. A doorbell that does not start a meltdown. A dog you can take places, host around, and trust. The behavior you are living with now does not have to be your normal, and naming it today is the first step to leaving it behind.

    THE PROGRAMS BEHIND THE FIXES

    Where the Real Work Happens

    • Leash Reactivity Intensive Focused work to take the charge out of the trigger so walks feel calm and predictable again.
    • Behavior Camp A residential reset for moderate behavior issues like fear, anxiety, and guarding, with daily structure in a calm environment.
    • Transform Camp Our most intensive residential program for aggression and bite cases, built around an honest prognosis.
    • Private Lessons One-on-one coaching that puts the plan in your hands at home, where the behavior really lives.
    • Group Classes Structured weekly classes for manners, leash skills, and confidence in a controlled social setting.
    • Puppy Program Early foundations that prevent most adult behavior problems before they ever start.

    Frequently Asked Questions

My dog lunges and barks at other dogs, is that aggression or reactivity?

Most leash lunging and barking is reactivity, an over-the-top emotional response, not true aggression. Both are trainable, and an assessment tells us the root cause and whether private lessons or Behavior Camp is the better fit.

Can an aggressive dog ever be trusted again?

Many can be significantly improved, and some fully rehabilitated, through our Transform Camp. We never promise miracles, we give you an honest prognosis after evaluating your dog.

How much does it cost to fix my dog's behavior problem?

It depends on the problem and the program. A structured Group Class runs differently than a 14-night reactivity intensive or a residential Transform Camp, and the PD360 assessment ($199 for the first dog, $149 for a second) is where we confirm the right program and its cost before you commit.

Should I choose a residential camp or private lessons?

Residential camps suit dogs who need daily structure and immersion, like reactivity, anxiety, guarding, or aggression cases. Private lessons suit milder issues and owners who want to do the daily work at home with coaching. The assessment recommends the fit, and many families combine both.

How does the assessment decide which program my dog needs?

A senior trainer watches the real behavior in person, names the root cause instead of the symptom, and gives you a prognosis. From there we route your dog to the program built for that problem, and any bite history routes to Aggression Rehabilitation for safety.

How long until I see a change?

Residential programs run 14 to 21 nights and hand you a manageable dog and a written plan at pickup. Lasting change depends on following that plan at home, which is why every program includes owner handoff coaching.
