Training Philosophy
Every dog learns differently, so the plan should bend to the dog, not the other way around. Lucero puts that into practice by working the PD360 curriculum grade by grade at the Cave Creek campus, always reading the dog in front of her rather than running a script. She leans on the same four stages every Partners Dogs instructor is trained in: Teaching a new skill, Reinforcing it until it holds, Proofing it around real distractions, and Maintenance so it lasts. Owners often point to Lucero as the instructor who finally made the plan click for their dog.
Ideal Client & Goals
Lucero is a strong fit for Cave Creek owners whose dog needs a patient, structured hand to make real progress. She works best with families who set clear boundaries and expectations for their dog and are willing to put in the work, moving through the PD360 curriculum step by step, grade by grade, rather than chasing a quick fix.
Experience
Lucero has built her time at Partners Dog Training around the Cave Creek campus, working dogs up through the PD360 curriculum one grade at a time. Her work has touched 2,238 dogs and covered 14,716 tracked behaviors, using the same read-the-dog approach every Partners Dogs instructor is trained in. She is often the instructor owners credit with finally making a training plan click.
Her connection to dogs goes back long before she joined the Partners team. Lucero spent time doing hands-on enrichment work with puppies before coming on board, including foundational skills like sit, stay, and leash work, and learning how to bring timid dogs out of their shell.
Favorite moment: One of my favorite moments was with a pet parent named Gina, who emailed us after many hours of work with Eddie, the foster dog she signed up for camp because he was a biter. She was so happy with the results that she ended up keeping him. She never imagined Eddie would change the way he did, and I could not be prouder of him and their relationship.

Never start recall practice outside around distractions. Lucero teaches recall inside first, at short distances with fewer distractions, using plenty of encouragement, an upbeat tone of voice, and stepping back as your dog comes to you.
Crate them! A crate gives an overstimulated dog a calm, safe place to reset, and it is one of the daily structures Lucero helps owners put in place.
